3-star Lotus Guesthouse in London - A historic converted courthouse with free yoga & meditation

Property & Amenities

Lotus Guesthouse is a former courthouse and jail transformed into a guesthouse connected to a Buddhist cultural centre. The property includes a chapel/shrine, a garden, and a terrace with outdoor furniture and a picnic area. Guests have access to the Buddhist centre's library and can join free yoga and meditation classes held on site.

Rooms

Rooms are converted former holding cells, retaining original features like high ceilings and white-tiled walls. Each room includes a comfortable bed, a fan, storage shelves, and a welcome gift of dark chocolate with a personalised note. The larger en-suite double room offers a private bathroom; single rooms share a spacious bathroom with eco-friendly toiletries and bamboo toilet paper.

Location

Lotus Guesthouse sits on a quiet side street in Lambeth, 1.8 km from Waterloo Station. Kennington and Elephant & Castle tube stations are a 5-10 minute walk, providing direct access to central London. Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and London Bridge are each 2.5 km from the property; London City Airport is 13 km away.

Guest Services

The guesthouse offers private check-in and check-out using a door code system for gate, front door, and room. Luggage storage is available for early arrivals or late departures. A communal kitchenette provides a microwave, fridge, kettle, tea, coffee, and cereal for breakfast.

Activities & Community

Revenue from stays directly supports local community programs, including recovery workshops, yoga classes for refugees, support circles, and mending circles for neighbours. Guests can attend free weekly yoga and meditation sessions in the temple hall (former courtroom). The property also hosts a café and a courtyard garden with picnic tables.

Rooms: Converted holding cells with original features

Wellness: Free yoga and meditation classes on site

Services: Private check-in with door code system

“This guesthouse presents a welcoming atmosphere, reminiscent of a tranquil haven tucked away in Lambeth. The location is quite convenient, placing central London within easy reach via the nearby Kennington and Elephant & Castle tube stations. I particularly appreciate the communal kitchenette and courtyard, plus the opportunity for reflective moments in the Buddhist temple.”
